STC VL53L5CX is an advanced time of flight (ToF) multi area ranging sensor



VL53L5CX adopts the latest generation of direct ToF technology of STC, and can measure absolute distance regardless of target color and reflectivity. It provides accurate ranging up to 400 cm and can operate at high speeds (60 Hz), making it the fastest multi area micro ToF sensor on the market.





Multi area distance measurement can reach up to 8x8 area, 63 ° wide diagonal field of view, which can be reduced by software. The VL53L5CX can detect different objects in the field of view using the histogram algorithm patented by STF Semiconductor. The histogram algorithm can also suppress the crosstalk of cover slides over 60cm.



Compared with the previous three products, the VL53L5 has achieved several breakthroughs: first, it has a large angle, extending to 61 degrees; Second, it can be cut to 16 areas. The details are as follows:



First, the angle is large: the field of view angle of ToF products is generally controlled at about 25-27 degrees, and the effective distance of FOV (field of view angle) is about 25-27 degrees according to the effective range of transmission power, reception capacity and algorithm. Through the improvement of software and hardware, the current angle can reach 60 degrees. 60 degrees has two advantages: on the one hand, it covers a wider range and is especially suitable for larger products, such as large household appliances and large screens; On the other hand, this big angle can also be programmed. The second is to achieve multiple regions: 16 regions or more can be cut. After cutting, VL53L5 is divided into four blocks, namely four quadrants. Each quadrant can be cut again, reaching 16 areas or more. Taking 16 effective regions as an example, each region can output its ranging independently, which represents the initial depth change.
