With a wide input voltage range of 2.7V to 12V, the TPS61088 supports applications utilizing single or two-cell lithium batteries. The device has a 10A switching current capability and is capable of delivering output voltages up to 12.6V.
The TPS61088 utilizes an adaptive constant off-time peak current control topology to regulate the output voltage. The TPS61088 operates in PWM mode under moderate to heavy load conditions. Under light load conditions, the device can select one of two operating modes via the MODE pin. One is the PFM mode to improve efficiency; the other is the forced PWM mode to avoid application problems caused by low switching frequency. The switching frequency in PWM mode can be adjusted from 200kHz to 2.2MHz by an external resistor. The TPS61088 also implements a programmable soft-start function and an adjustable peak switching current limit. In addition, the device provides 13.2V output overvoltage protection, cycle-by-cycle overcurrent protection, and thermal shutdown protection.
