Product Overview:

This Zero Voltage Switching (ZVS) driver circuit is commonly referred to as the ‘ZVS circuit’ by enthusiasts in China. Renowned for its high power handling, low heat generation, simplicity, and reliability, it is widely employed to drive Spark Gap Tesla Coils (SGTC), Jacob's Ladders, Marx Generators, and similar devices. Operates on 12-24V DC input. At 12V, the power supply must provide no less than 4A; at 24V, no less than 8A. Can be powered by switching power supplies, batteries, or lithium battery packs. Alternatively, use a high-power transformer with self-rectification and filtering, employing a filter capacitor of no less than 10000uF.


Regarding the high-voltage pack: Standard high-voltage packs from black-and-white or colour televisions are generally suitable, regardless of model. Higher power ratings are preferable. Employing ZVS drive on the high-voltage pack already subjects it to overload conditions. Consequently, breakdown damage constitutes a normal occurrence and does not indicate a quality defect in the high-voltage pack. Avoid prolonged operation at high power levels whenever possible! (High-voltage packs are consumable components; select high-quality, high-power units.)


Primary winding for the high-voltage pack: Employ 1.5mm² wire for the primary winding, with 5 turns + 5 turns (i.e., 10 turns with a centre tap), wound in the same direction. (Wires should be sourced independently or purchased as domestic electrical wiring from hardware stores).

Regarding discharge arc length: At input voltage 12V/5A, the high-voltage discharge arc spans approximately 1-2 centimetres. Higher input voltage and current yield greater output power and longer discharge arcs, reaching over 5 centimetres at maximum input 30V/10A. Should the arc prove excessively short, verify whether sufficient input power is being supplied.


Regarding power: Circuit output power depends entirely on your input power. If your power supply only delivers 30W, constructing a 200W ZVS circuit will not achieve 100W or 200W output. Therefore, ensure your input power supply is sufficiently rated. Power=Voltage × Current!

Important Notes:

1. After installation, meticulously cross-reference the schematic and conduct multiple checks to confirm all components are correctly soldered.

2. Note the polarity markings on the driver board's input terminals. Verify correct polarity before powering up to prevent board damage from reverse connection.

3. For initial testing, use a low-power 12V supply to mitigate risks of board failure due to faults or wiring errors.

4. The driver board's maximum input is 30V DC at 10A. Operating at these limits is not recommended; avoid prolonged use under overvoltage or overcurrent conditions. The driver board is unsuitable for induction heating applications. If used for induction heating, the input voltage should be kept below 15V. For induction heating or high-power, prolonged operation, a cooling fan must be added. Inadequate heat dissipation may cause excessive temperatures in MOSFETs, capacitors, and other components, accelerating ageing or even causing burnout.

El envío ha sido rápido, el único defecto es el embalaje, metido en una bolsa de burbujas y sobre de plástico, el producto ha llegado con un componente roto y algunas piezas rotas por lugares que no importa si está rotos o no. Debería de tener mejor embalaje, en caja de cartón o algo así. Es el segundo pedido de este producto y el primero lo devolví por estar roto por varios sitios por culpa del embalaje que es deficiente.

Funciona a la perfección. Simplemente reemplacé el conector secundario inferior con un cable HV un poco más grueso. Probablemente eso no habría sido necesario. Los bobinajes primarios podrían ser un poco más gruesos, pero aún así los reemplazaré.
